Legislative Update - August 2, 2017

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

Dear neighbors,

There are several community events that I wanted to highlight. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more details.

Night to Unite (formerly National Night Out)

Yesterday’s Night to Unite was fantastic! I tried to make it to as many neighborhood events as I could and was able to meet a lot of new people and ran into some long-time friends as well. Thank you to all of the people across Apple Valley and Lakeville for coming together to enjoy the Minnesota summer, and helping foster a stronger, safer, and more connected community. Here are a few photos from yesterday.

Minnesota Values Project

In case you missed it, tonight Representatives Cheryl Youakim, Mike Freiberg and I will be listening to community groups and fellow Minnesotans about the future of our state. The event will be tonight (August 2) from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the commons room at 6529 152nd Street West across from Kelley Park. This is a great opportunity to engage with policymakers.

Coffee and Conversations / Capitol Grand Re-Opening

As a representative I believe in being as accessible as possible. That’s why I hold so many community events to listen to your concerns and provide updates. But I also want our community to feel comfortable engaging at the Capitol, and all of our elected officials. Capitol renovations are providing better access for all Minnesotans.

To celebrate the renovation and to help re-connect people with the State Capitol there is a huge Grand Re-Opening celebration where people can get tours of the Capitol, learn about the renovation, and participate in a photo challenge and scavenger hunt. There will marble cutting demonstrations, the Children’s Museum is featuring a kid zone, live music, and more that you can check out at www.mn.gov/mymncapitol .

For the August 12th Coffee and Conversation I would like to invite you for a 1 P.M. tour of the Capitol led by the Minnesota Historical Society which is a part of the Grand Re-Opening celebration. I am hoping this will also make it easier for people to visit during the legislative session. The Capitol address is 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard  Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155. To meet for the tour walk into the front doors of the Capitol and take a right. There will also be signs to help people looking for the tours. I’m looking forward to people visiting!

Warmly,

Erin
