Statement from Rep. Dean Urdahl on budget forecast

Friday, February 26, 2016

ST. PAUL – Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, issued the following statement regarding the release of the state's new economic forecast on Friday, which calls for a $900 million surplus for fiscal years 2016-17. That is a $300 million downward adjustment from the November forecast.

"A weaker national economy and reduced consumer spending factored into a slightly reduced revenue outlook," Urdahl said. "On the other hand, we still have a surplus because our state continues collecting more in taxes than necessary. Some of those dollars should be left in the hands of taxpayers and small businesses so they have more money to circulate through the economy. That, along with improving our roads and bridges in Greater Minnesota, should be our top priorities for the upcoming legislative session."
