SAINT PAUL, MN – State Rep. Carlos Mariani (DFL – St. Paul) has been recognized as an “Outstanding Legislator of the Year” for 2017 by the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA).
“We are recognizing Rep. Mariani for his support in the historic reform of Minnesota’s teacher licensure system and for his contributions to help redesign the licensure system to ensure hiring and staffing flexibility to include more teachers of color that reflect the diversity of Minnesota classrooms,” said MSBA Representatives.
In a letter recognizing the achievement, the MSBA also thanked Rep. Mariani for his “thoughtful discourse” and “willingness to tackle complex educational and political challenges”.
Rep. Mariani accepted the honor of ‘Outstanding Legislator’ with gratitude.
“In my role at the Capitol, I see legislators on both sides of the aisle have disagreements, but I always try to find ways to set differences aside and come together in the effort to ensure there is a good teacher and quality programming in every Minnesota classroom,” said Rep. Mariani. “There is much more work to do, and we must never go back on our commitment to fully fund education, but I’m grateful for this honor from MSBA. I was proud to join with them in the fight to do everything we can to bring a high quality education to every Minnesota student.”
