Tax Cut Bill Passes Committee

Friday, March 4, 2016

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Congratulations to the Maple Grove Crimson Boys basketball team for their sectional championship win and their berth to the State Tournament! The Osseo Orioles play in the sectional championship game tonight and we wish them well on their quest for the State Tournament as well! Good luck to our other youth teams this weekend as playoffs continue in the winter sports.

Here are the highlights from our Capitol this week:

  1. Unemployment Tax Cut Bill Passes Out of Committee

  2. School Meetings with ISD 279 and ISD 284

  3. Session Starts March 8

  4. MN Association of Radon Professionals in Maple Grove

Unemployment Tax Cut Bill Passes Out of Committee

This week the bill that I chief authored and have been working on since the first days of the 2015 session was passed out of the Job Growth and Energy Affordability Committee. This bill will lower unemployment insurance premiums for businesses in Minnesota totaling $272 million. This helps ease the tax burden on many local businesses, but also ensures unemployment insurance for those out of work. The bill would also reform the unemployment trust fund while continuing the safeguards for this important program. I hope to see the passage of this bill on the House floor very soon!

School Meetings with ISD 279 and ISD 284

This week I met with both school districts and discussed the legislative agenda for this upcoming session. This session will focus on policy issues for our school districts, and I look forward to continuing the work to ensure the world-class education for our children.

Session Starts March 8

The start of session is here! This Tuesday we reconvene for the 2016 session, and I am committed to continuing the fight for our district at the Capitol. If you plan to be in St. Paul during session, please stop by and say hello. If you are with a group and would like me to speak briefly, I would be delighted ā€“ please call my office to arrange logistics. I am honored to represent this great district; thank you for your continued support!

MN Association of Radon Professionals

I was honored this week to address this group of professionals in Maple Grove and discuss their concerns with pending legislation and how it impacts their industry. This is an issue area Iā€™m learning more about, and something that we could see in the upcoming session.

Have a great weekend and good luck to the Orioles basketball team tonight. It would be outstanding to have both basketball programs at the State Tournament!
