ST. PAUL - A not guilty verdict was just announced in the trial of Officer Jeronimo Yanez for the death of Philando Castile. Rep. Paul Thissen (DFL-Minneapolis) issued this statement:
“When a tragedy like the loss of Philandro Castile occurs, justice can never be complete. We are reminded more than ever of the hard and uncomfortable work to truly make black lives matter. The life experience lived by many African Americans continues to be denied in the criminal justice system.
“We need to confront and respond to the fact that African Americans continue to struggle under the weight of racism embedded in our policies and institutions, and not just in our justice system but more broadly.”
