Legislative Update: Session recap and Governor's Residence tours

Monday, June 12, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

There are still some unresolved issues related to the 2017 session, but I’m hopeful they can be resolved between Gov. Dayton and legislative leaders without having to go to court.

This session – and the special session that followed – was unique in several aspects. I was disappointed in the way the legislative process was often ignored by the majority. Even beyond that, a very important data privacy provision that had bipartisan support was struck from an omnibus bill in conference committee. On its journey through the House and Senate, only one legislator voted against it, but in conference committee before final passage, it was removed with no explanation.

The people of Minnesota, Republicans and Democrats alike, deserve to have their voices heard at the Capitol and this type of action damages that process.

Governor’s Residence Tours

Reservations are now open for summer tours of the Governor’s Residence. It will be open for public tours on June 13th and 27th, July 11th and 25th, and August 8th and 22nd from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tours begin every ten minutes, with reservations being welcomed and encouraged for all group sizes. Walk-ins are accepted based on availability. The grounds and gardens are open to the public until 1 p.m. on tour days.

There is no fee for the tour, but visitors are encouraged to consider bringing a non-perishable food item.

For more information, call 651-201-3464 or email residence.gov@state.mn. The Governor’s Residence is located at 1006 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota.

I hope you all stay cool this weekend. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Sandra Masin

State Representative
