RELEASE: Rep. Tim Sanders Will Not Seek Re-Election

Thursday, February 25, 2016

ST. PAUL – Rep. Tim Sanders, R-Blaine, has announced that he will not run for re-election after he completes his current term in the Minnesota House.

“After four terms in the legislature, my wife Farrah and I agree that it’s time to retire from the House,” said Sanders. “The timing is just right for our family, and it will allow me to spend more time with our kids.”

With three young children at home, Sanders looks forward to enjoying some quality time with family, and investing more energy in his career.

Sanders was first elected to the legislature in the 2008 election, and has served the legislature and the citizens of Minnesota in various leadership positions since taking the Oath of Office in January of 2009. He was nominated to his current position of Assistant Majority Leader following the November 2014 election, and has served as Chair of the Government Operations and Elections Committee since the start of the 2015 session.

Throughout his legislative career, Sanders has shown steady leadership and a remarkable ability to get things accomplished. He is known as a very effective legislator in the House, with a significant portion of his bills being signed into law. He has been at the forefront in crafting fair and transparent elections policy, and has passed many commerce-related reforms during his tenure.

“It has been a true honor to serve the community of Blaine in the Minnesota House,” said Sanders. “I have met so many great people from our area during my time in the legislature, and I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the past eight years.”

Sanders' tenure at the Minnesota House of Representatives will officially come to an end when a new state representative takes the Oath of Office in January of 2017.
