News From Representative Kresha 2-19-2016

Friday, February 19, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Congratulations and good luck to all our local sports teams finishing up their seasons. Teams like the Pierz wrestling team continue to make our area proud as they keep their hopes alive for a state title. Last weekend, the Pioneers took down Aitkin to win the section championship and advance to state. Congrats, guys; keep it going!

2016 Broadband Conference

Yesterday, I joined a number of other legislators in St. Paul for the Minnesota Telecom Alliance’s broadband conference. As you know, this is an important issue for me in St. Paul, and one that impacts our area, and Greater Minnesota as a whole. Despite the party differences, it was clear that ensuring broadband progress for underserved, rural areas in our state is a priority heading into the 2016 session.

MNsure Fine Print

If you’re over 55 years old and have signed up through MNsure to become eligible for Medical Assistance, there’s something important you should know about the process. In the fine print, it may say an estate claim, or lien, may be filed against you in case you or your spouse pass away. This means that many Minnesota couples who, based on income, qualify for free health insurance, could be unknowingly racking up thousands in future estate claims. What this tells me is that we need increased transparency in this process to help Minnesotans understand the ramifications of this program. Feel free to read more here.

Around Town

It’s Friday, which means it’s time to head out to your local fish fries this evening! A couple events to be aware of in the coming days are:

Little Falls Kiwanis Club: TONIGHT, 4:30-7:30 at the Little Falls VFW (1210 3rd Ave NE, Little Falls)

Royalton American Legion: TONIGHT and every Friday until Easter, 5-8 at the Royalton American Legion (103 N Maple St, Royalton)

St. Mary’s Church in Upsala: March 18, 4-8 at St. Mary’s (308 S Main St., Upsala)

As we count down the days to Easter, feel free to send me any fish fries in your area and I’ll include them in my future updates! Also, I hope you’ll continue to contact me with any suggestions or ideas you have for our state.

Have a great weekend,

Ron
