Statement from Rep. Dehn on Final Public Safety Bill

Monday, May 22, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN – On the final day of the 2017 legislative session, the Minnesota House voted on the final version of the GOP Public Safety bill.  The revised version of the bill includes a provision that would prohibit undocumented immigrants from obtaining a driver’s license.  Representative Raymond Dehn (DFL-Minneapolis) opposed the bill, and released the following statement:

“The demographics of our state are changing, and they have been for decades.  This harmful, mean-spirited provision in the bill doesn’t allow the opportunity for our neighbors- the people who work in our community- to get a license.  Our state values diversity, and we should be proud of what makes us unique and special. We should welcome and embrace the people who make our community, state, and economy one of the best in our nation.  The Minnesota Republicans are out of touch with Minnesota values and are only aiming to divide us with their harmful rhetoric and cruel politics.”
