Dear Neighbors,
Work continues here at the State Capitol as we approach the constitutional deadline for adjournment at midnight tonight. Agreement on important issues such as Health and Human Services, Education and Taxes remains elusive. We’ve reached the stage where much of the decision making is occurring behind closed doors with just a few legislative leaders and the Governor. Not only is the public shut out, but most legislators are kept in the dark as well regarding the both the substance and process of these deliberations. There’s a great deal of speculation about what occurs behind these closed doors, and I filmed a video on the House Floor highlighting this; check it out on YouTube.
It appears a compromise is close in many areas, but many details are still being determined. Please know that I’m committed to doing whatever I can to ensure our budget lines up with our key values like terrific schools, quality health care, sustainable roads, bridges and transit, and economic opportunity for all Minnesotans. Keep in touch with your comments and feedback.
Sincerely,
John Lesch
State Representative
