News and an Invitation from Rep. Mark Uglem 2-12-2016

Friday, February 12, 2016

Dear Friends,

Just a quick line to let you know of an event happening in our area, and about a piece of legislation passed last year that will help our schools.

Anoka-Hennepin School District Bill/ Minnesota School Boards Association Legislator of the Year

On Tuesday, February 9th the Minnesota School Boards Association named me one of its Legislators of the Year for 2015. The award is given to legislators who have proven a commitment to students and school boards in their own communities, and across the state.

(Left to right: Denise Dietrich of the Minnesota School Boards Association, myself, and Anoka-Hennepin School Board Chair Tom Heidemann).

The reason the MSBA chose to give this award to me is because of a bill I authored in the 2015 session, aimed at helping the Anoka-Hennepin school district. The legislation increased the amount of money our state contributes to Anoka-Hennepin by adding to the per-capita funding allotment from the State. Without this needed legislation our district would have faced a deficit, and probable cuts of teachers and facilities. I'm glad we could stop that from happening.
