Statement: House passes Environment Omnibus bill that guts programs and rolls back environmental protections for clean air, water and land

Monday, May 22, 2017

SAINT PAUL, MN— Late Sunday night, the Minnesota House passed the two year budget for environment and natural resources. The 146 page bill is full of controversial partisan policy and porky provisions instead of leading the way for protecting Minnesota’s natural resources.

Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL-South Saint Paul), the DFL-Lead on the Environment Committee, released the following statement:

“The Republican legislature held out and traded fee increases for parks, hunters, and anglers so they could get a ton of awful policy passed. This bill not only abandons our commitment to that shared environmental legacy, it goes against decades of progress. The people of Minnesota don’t want to cut, gut, and roll back policies and protections that keep our water and air clean.”

Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL-South Saint Paul) is the DFL-Lead on the House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance. Rep. Hansen has authored nation leading legislation on pollinator and environmental protections.
