Legislative Update - May 16th, 2017

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Dear neighbors,

Legislative leaders resumed talks with Governor Dayton after House and Senate leaders walked away from the negotiating table. This stalled talks for 8 days as the House and Senate Majority passed budget bills the Governor objected to and promised he would veto. As promised, the Governor vetoed the ten budget bills immediately after he received them. Here is a list of the budget bills and the veto letter for each which is where the Governors reiterates his objections to the budget bills.

On Friday, Governor Mark Dayton vetoed the following five bills:

It isn’t clear to me why legislative leaders would walk away from the table with so much work unresolved. My priorities continue to be fully funding our K-12 Schools, no cuts to Metro Transit, protecting local control, sufficient funding to Minnesota’s higher education systems, support for home health care workers who serve seniors and people with disabilities, and ongoing protections for our environment—with an emphasis on water.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It’s an honor to represent you at the Legislature.

Warmly,

Erin Maye Quade

State Representative
