Legislative Update (February 12, 2016)

Friday, February 12, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

A reminder that Saturday is my final in-district “office hours” meeting before the start of the 2016 session. I encourage you to come to Bernie’s Grill in Faribault at 9:00 am to discuss your questions and concerns regarding the coming legislative session. It would be great to chat with you over a cup of coffee and some eggs.

If you have been following news reports over the last handful of years, you are aware of efforts in Minnesota to unionize independent childcare providers.

On Monday, the Bureau of Mediation Services (BMS) mailed ballots to providers—triggering a union election.

There is concern regarding the election process as BMS and the Department of Human Services may have misinterpreted state law and not included the entire list of eligible providers, shrinking the list by as much as 80%.

If you are a licensed childcare provider in my district, you should have received a letter from me informing you of this election. As always, if you have additional questions regarding the union election please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s update and I hope to see you Saturday morning at Bernie’s Grill!

Have a great weekend,

Brian
