RELEASE: Statement from Rep. Jim Newberger on United State Supreme Court Clean Power Plan Ruling

Thursday, February 11, 2016

ST. PAUL, MN—Representative Jim Newberger, R-Becker, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court decision staying the implementation of President Obama's Clean Power Plan, and Governor Dayton's subsequent statement supporting the continued planning for implementation in Minnesota of the new regulations that will result in the loss of hundreds of jobs across the state.

"I applaud the Supreme Court for putting a temporary stay on President Obama's job-killing power plan," Newberger said. "Governor Dayton owes taxpayers an explanation why his administration wants to waste taxpayer dollars to continue implementing rules that are likely to be struck down as unconstitutional. Taxpayers have real concerns about the harmful impacts of this federal overreach, and it's disappointing that the governor is choosing to side with liberal special interests instead of hardworking Minnesotans concerned about their jobs and their livelihoods."

"If the Dayton administration is intent on continuing to move forward with Clean Power Plan efforts, I look forward to reviewing their draft plan which under state law is due no later than March 15, 2016."
