Legislative Update - May 15th, 2017

Monday, May 15, 2017

Dear neighbors,

As we head back to the Capitol for the final eight days of the Legislative session, I am deeply committed to a successful end of the session on May 22.

It will require that we remain focused on solutions, not politics and it will require that we make compromise where we disagree. For example, in the case of funding for roads and bridges that means accepting key elements of proposals that passed without my support in the Legislature along with those from the Governor that I do support.  A combination of new funding from the general fund matched with new constitutionally-dedicated funding for road construction is a genuine compromise that would move Minnesota forward.

There is a lot to get done and achieving real compromises at the end of the session will be hard, but we can reconcile differences if we so choose.  With the Twins in first place and Minnesota coming off an absolutely beautiful Mothers’ Day and fishing opener weekend, I remain hopeful for us to get the job done in St. Paul for this wonderful state we all love.

Thanks again,

Clark Johnson
