House passes jobs and energy bill that doesn’t create jobs and endangers our environment

Monday, May 15, 2017

SAINT PAUL, MN –After abandoning budget negotiations with Governor Dayton last week, Minnesota House and Senate Republicans have been sending him budget bills he’s promised to veto. The bill cuts job creation efforts, consumer protections, racial & economic disparities efforts, workforce housing, and rolls back Minnesota’s renewable energy progress.

Rep. Tim Mahoney (Saint Paul), the DFL-Jobs Lead, released the following statement:

“This bill is the epitome of Minnesota Republicans embracing Trumpism. Not only are we wasting time passing bills that have no chance of becoming law, they’re awful pieces of legislation. The jobs and energy bill sent to the Governor today cuts job creation efforts, rolls back decades of progress on renewable energy, lacks internet privacy provisions, and leaves Minnesotans to the mercy of employers who might commit wage theft.

“The worst part of this is that we could be passing a bill that puts Minnesotans first and invests in the things we value. Instead, Republicans are playing politics and delaying passing a real budget with less than a week left in session.”
