RELEASE: EQUALITY LEADERS CELEBRATE 4TH ANNIVERSARY OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN MINNESOTA

Sunday, May 14, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN – This week at the state legislature, Minnesota Representatives and Senators who lead the fight for marriage equality took a moment to celebrate the 4th Anniversary of the Marriage Equality Act. That historic bipartisan measure ensured that same-sex couples have the freedom to marry the person they love in Minnesota.

The bill authors, Rep. Karen Clark (DFL – Minneapolis) and Sen. Scott Dibble (DFL – Minneapolis), have been champions for marriage equality for decades at the State Capitol. They were joined by their LGBT legislative colleagues, Rep. Susan Allen (DFL – Minneapolis) who voted for the bill, and Rep. Erin Maye Quade (DFL – Apple Valley), who was elected to the legislature in 2016 and helped in the push for marriage equality.

Governor Dayton signed the bill into law, making Minnesota the 12th state in the country to recognize marriage equality, on May 14, 2013.
