Legislative Update 7-24-15

Friday, July 24, 2015

Hello from St. Paul,

Like many of you, I was disgusted after watching two videos that had recently surfaced that discuss how Planned Parenthood sells body parts of aborted babies to researchers.

In the first video, the senior director of medical services at Planned Parenthood Federation of America was talking about the organization’s participation in tissue donation programs, and also the price ranges charged "per specimen." She also described how it is able to harvest targeted organs from a fetus, to keep them "intact."

Selling fetal body parts is a serious violation of federal law. I, along with other state lawmakers, have called on Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson to investigate whether Planned Parenthood has broken any laws in our state. We also asked Governor Dayton to investigate whether any illegal activity has occurred locally.

As a "family planning" organization, Planned Parenthood receives millions of dollars from the taxpayers, so it is entirely reasonable to determine if the organization has performed any illegal activity. It's time to get some answers.

In other news, I wanted to remind you that the Washington County Fair begins next week and encourage you to come and visit me! The annual event is held in Lake Elmo at the fairgrounds - 12300 North 40th Street - from July 29 to August 2nd.

There's something for everyone at the fair, with thousands of exhibits, carnival rides and games, and plenty of free entertainment.

I hope to see you there!
