ST. PAUL – In recognition for his support of cost-effective transportation solutions in the State of Minnesota, State Representative Tim Kelly (R-Red Wing) has been named "Legislator of the Year" by the Suburban Transit Association (STA).
"It is truly an honor to receive this award," said Kelly, who is chairman of the Minnesota House Transportation Policy and Finance Committee. "As transportation chairman, not only am I trying to find reliable, long-term funding solutions without raising taxes for our rural road and bridge needs, but I'm also trying to find practical, common-sense answers for those utilizing transit in the Metro Area."
Rep. Kelly was honored by the STA for carrying legislation that funded a suburb-to-suburb transit service demonstration project, and for allowing the STA to name an elected official to the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB).
The Suburban Transit Association is comprised of four transit organizations in the Metro Area and provides five million rides to customers each year, primarily through express bus service.
