Dear neighbors and friends,
The Easter and Passover break has concluded and we returned to St. Paul on Tuesday to begin wrapping up the 2017 legislative session. Here is an update:
Five weeks to go
We have a full agenda ahead as we complete the budget process before the constitutional adjournment deadline ofMay 22. Most finance bills have been passed and either are in conference committee or will be shortly. House and Senate conferees were appointed by the Speaker of the House to compare the different versions of each finance bill. Governor Dayton will also be very involved in the process as we seek to reach agreement on the final budget.
Premium Relief
Earlier this year the legislature approved premium relief for people in the individual health insurance market. Now most Minnesotans who purchase insurance on their own are receiving the premium relief. For people who purchase their plans individually through Blue Plus, HealthPartners, Medica and PerferredOne will see the discount in May. People with policies through UCare insurance received the discount in April.
The discount is automatically being applied so people who are eligible for the program do not have to do anything.
Groups at the Capitol
Each day, several advocacy groups come to the Capitol to meet with legislators for their “Days on the Hill.” This week, groups include Habitat for Humanity, Outfront Minnesota, the Minnesota Zoo, Minnesota Street Rod Association, Minnesota Water Action and Wind Energy.
Minnesotans travel from all corners of the state to show their support for issues they are passionate about. Their dedication to making Minnesota the best possible state is inspiring.
MN Commerce Dept. offers insurance tips during Severe Weather Awareness Week
The Minnesota Department of Commerce is encouraging Minnesotans to take some simple steps to prepare financially in the event of a tornado, flooding or other severe weather.
The Commerce Department website (mn.gov/commerce)features a Disaster Information Center detailing how to plan ahead and steps to take if you suffer storm damage.

Review and Update Your Homeowners Insurance Policy
Consider Flood Insurance
Check Your Auto Coverage
