Legislative Update: Survey Results - April 5th, 2017

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

Dear neighbors,

I want to thank all of those who completed my online legislative survey. In total, 105 people took the survey and I was pleased to see many areas where people highlighted our shared values. Here is a summary of the results.

What makes you proud to be a Minnesotan?

What do you think needs to improve in Minnesota the most?

What should the legislature’s top priority be?

Which approaches do you support to improve the economic lives of Minnesotans?

Republicans have introduced “preemption” legislation to prevent cities and counties from setting their own labor standards including a higher minimum wage and benefits like paid sick time for the work done in their communities. Do you support or oppose preemption?

Republicans are proposing private school vouchers in Minnesota that would provide partial tuition to private schools. This could shift resources away from our public schools and would provide tax dollars toward a private entity without oversight. Do you support or oppose private school vouchers?

Some legislators recently proposed legalizing recreational use of marijuana. What best describes your opinion on the issue?

Do you support or oppose passing universal background checks for all gun sales in Minnesota?

Do you support or oppose investing an additional $74 million to protect the State of Minnesota from cyberattacks?

National Popular Vote has been passed by 11 states with 165 electoral votes and will take effect nationally when states with 105 more electoral votes enact it. Do you support or oppose passing National Popular Vote to replace the Electoral College?

These results are very helpful to me when making decisions that affect our communities. Thank you all who participated in this survey and I’d be happy to hear from you about issues that affect you, your families and our communities.

Thanks much,

Mary KP
