Dear Neighbors,
ERA Minnesota Capitol Action Day and International Women’s Day
Wednesday was International Women’s Day, which corresponded nicely with ERA Minnesota’s Capitol Action Day. Hundreds of supporters flooded the Capitol wearing red to celebrate the day and advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment.
We had these two pictures taken: on the left is a group of female representatives (I’m in the lower right corner!) and the group on the right is the majority of supporters in attendance on the indoor steps of the Capitol. It was a wonderful experience to be part of, and I hope we can continue the momentum toward increasing the role of women in our society.
Capitol Student Essay Contest
Minnesota K-12 students are encouraged to submit essays celebrating Minnesota’s State Capitol building. In the essays, students can describe what Minnesota’s State Capitol means to them or explain how the Capitol has shaped our past and will impact our future.
The contest is divided into three categories based on age; elementary school, middle school, and high school. Winners will be invited to share their essays during the Capitol’s grand opening festivities in August and will also win a $1,000 Minnesota College Savings Plan.
