Legislative Update: Speed limit changes and essay contest

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

The number of bills we’re hearing in committee per day has exploded due to our first deadline coming at the end of this week. Some committees have been hearing as many as 20 bills in one day.

Capitol Student Essay Contest

Minnesota K-12 students are encouraged to submit essays celebrating Minnesota’s State Capitol building. The essays can explain how the Capitol has shaped our collective past and will impact our future or students can describe what Minnesota’s State Capitol means to them.

The contest is divided into three categories, one each for elementary school, middle school, and high school. Winners will be invited to share their essays during the Capitol’s grand opening festivities on August 11-13, 2017. They will also receive a $1,000 Minnesota College Savings Plan.

Mankato Day at the Capitol

I had the pleasure of welcoming constituents and Greater Mankato Growth to the Capitol for Mankato Day on Wednesday. I had a great time meeting the visitors and participated in the Mankato Days/Legislative Panel before a reception Wednesday evening in downtown St. Paul.

Speed limit changes

Just to give you a heads up, one trunk highway (MN 83) in our district was selected to have its speed limit increased from 55 mph to 60 mph. The changes are being made by MnDOT in accordance with Minnesota law.

ERA Minnesota Capitol Action Day and International Women’s Day

I’m proud to support the women advocating for the Equal Rights Amendment and it was great to see so many at the Capitol on Wednesday.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the Capitol.

Sincerely,

Jack Considine

State Representative
