Rep. Dale Lueck statement on REAL ID

Friday, January 8, 2016

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that REAL ID enforcement to board an airplane will take effect Jan. 22, 2018 at the earliest. If states have yet to fully comply, extensions can be granted until October 2020. Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, issued the following statement on REAL ID.

“This announcement is good news and provides certainty for those folks with near-term travel plans,” Lueck said. “We now have the necessary information from the federal government to allow making adjustments to Minnesota's drivers license and state ID cards in a rationale manner and not by attempting to jam something through in a special legislative session. The data privacy concerns and any associated costs of implementation can now be addressed in the upcoming regular legislative session.
