ST. PAUL, MN—On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that REAL ID enforcement to board an airplane will take effect January 22, 2018 at the earliest. If states have yet to fully comply, extensions can be granted until October 2020. As a member of the REAL ID Working Group, Representative Drew Christensen, R-Burnsville, issued the following statement on REAL ID.
“As we’ve said all along, there’s no need for Minnesotans to worry about boarding an airplane with their current ID cards,” said Christensen. “Now that we know enforcement is over two years away, we can take the proper steps during the legislative session to address this issue.”
