Statement on Passage of Preemption (HF 600)

Thursday, March 2, 2017

St. Paul, Minn. – Following the passage of House File 600, a bill to preempt local labor ordinances dealing with earned leave and minimum wage laws, State Representative Liz Olson (DFL-Duluth) issued the following statement:

“Tonight Minnesota House Democrats stood up for workers by opposing HF 600. We should be raising the floor statewide for wages and workplace conditions, not creating a ceiling,” said Olson. “Unless we can ensure workers are taken care of at a state level, we should allow local organizing efforts, like that happening around earned sick and safe time in Duluth, to take place.”

HF 600 passed the Minnesota House of Representatives 76-53, mostly along party lines.
