Open meeting Wednesday to discuss well/irrigation permitting issues

Monday, July 27, 2015

Dear Neighbor,

Citizens are invited to attend a town hall meeting legislators and DNR officials will host Wednesday, July 29, in Alexandria to discuss well and irrigation permitting issues.

The goal is to receive information from landowners that will help us adopt new state policies that are more efficient and workable for farmers, along with answering any questions people may have. This is a good opportunity for irrigators to share information about how new large-water appropriation laws are affecting their ability to obtain permits for new wells. The DNR has been charged with coming up with sustainability criteria to make sure we don’t deplete our underground aquifers. There are currently four pilot areas around the state, including one in this area focusing on the Bonanza Valley.

House Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee chairman, Rep. Denny McNamara of Hastings, also is scheduled to be among legislators in attendance. I hope you can join us and here are the complete details:

What: Central Minnesota DNR town hall meeting

When: 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29

Where: Large Community Room (Glenwood State Bank 2221 South Broadway St., Alexandria)

Who: DNR officials and area lawmakers

Sincerely,

Paul
