Poppe pleased with relief bill, cautious on reforms

St. Paul, Minn. – Following the passage of the health insurance premium relief bill Thursday, Rep. Jeanne Poppe (DFL – Austin) released the following statement:

“Today we passed the negotiated conference committee report for health care premium relief for those struggling with significant increases. The relief moves forward in the manner the Governor recommended months ago. The reforms in the bill will have to be monitored judiciously. We defended the protections for those with pre-existing conditions originally under threat thanks to residents of Minnesota who made their voices heard on that issue.

“I am glad to see the provision allowing agricultural cooperatives to form joint self-insured plans for their members remained in the final bill. This is a creative solution that should help ease some of the burden on Minnesotans affected by the premium increases.”

Rep. Jeanne Poppe can be reached at the Capitol by phone at 651-296-4193 or by email at rep.jeanne.poppe@house.mn.
