RELEASE: Rep. Metsa statement on premium relief bill

Thursday, January 26, 2017

St. Paul, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House passed a bill to provide premium relief for the 125,000 Minnesotans who buy health insurance in the individual market. These Minnesotans have been experiencing skyrocketing increases in the neighborhood of 60 percent.

Rep. Jason Metsa (DFL – Virginia) released the following statement:

“Elections have consequences, and although I do not agree with all aspects of this bill, we were able to work across the aisle over the last week to make significant improvements in the legislation, while providing the premium relief that folks across my district have expressed a need for.

“The conversation is not over today. I’ve signed on to HF 92, a bill to provide a public option so Minnesotans can enroll in MinnesotaCare. This is a program that has successfully served low and middle-income Minnesotans for 25 years, and opening it up to everyone is a policy direction long overdue. Other options are on the table too, including HF 496, a bill I’m also co-authoring which allows Minnesotans to buy into SEGIP, the health plan for state employees. Today though, I’m pleased that it appears folks will soon finally see premium relief.”
