Masin disappointed in lack of health care relief
SAINT PAUL, MN— Following the passage of the GOP-sponsored health insurance premium relief bill, HF 1, off the floor of the House of Representatives Thursday, Rep. Sandra Masin (DFL – Eagan) expressed her concern at its failure to provide relief in a timely manner to Minnesota families.
“It’s disappointing. I wanted real relief in a timely fashion for my constituents and for every Minnesotan facing these high premiums and now that may not happen,” said Masin, referring to the lengthy timeline required to implement the Republican bill.
An amendment to HF 1 was made as well, repealing a litany of health issues that insurance companies are currently required to cover, including cancer treatment, mental health and diabetes.
“This is a damaging amendment to pass. It makes no sense for people not to be covered for eventualities they often have no control over,” said Masin. “This was all done in an effort to make insurance cheaper, but there’s no point to cheap insurance if you do not have good coverage.”
The bill will now go into conference committee, where differences between it and the version the Senate passed last week will be reconciled.
