Rep. Flanagan Acknowledges Attack on Sabes Jewish Community Center

Thursday, January 19, 2017

Rep. Peggy Flanagan (DFL-St. Louis Park) made the following remarks on the floor of the Minnesota House of Representatives on January 19, 2017:

Mr. Speaker, I rise to acknowledge a particularly disturbing event that recently rocked the community I represent.

Yesterday, an anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat to the Sabes Jewish Community Center in St. Louis Park in my district.

Apparently this was an attack not just on my community but a coordinated anti-Semitic attack on more than two dozen Jewish centers across the country.

In St. Louis Park, our law enforcement officials acted swiftly to evacuate the premises, and thankfully, no one was physically harmed.

But this act of hate and intolerance scared a lot of people. It shook their confidence and made them wonder whether their kids are still safe in our community.

So I’m taking to the floor of the House of Representatives to speak directly to the Jewish community and other marginalized communities throughout Minnesota: we see you, we stand with you, and we won’t rest until you feel safe calling Minnesota home.
