Sandstede Sworn-In as New State Rep. for District 6A

Becomes newest DFL member of Iron Range delegation

St. Paul, Minn. – Today on the opening day of the 2017 Legislative Session, Rep. Julie Sandstede (DFL – Hibbing) took the oath of office to represent District 6A in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Rep. Sandstede takes over from former Rep. Carly Melin who chose not to seek re-election in November.

“I’m so honored to represent the people of my district down at the Capitol,” Rep. Sandstede said. “Our state faces some big challenges, and folks on the Range continue to face unique struggles, but I’m excited to get to work improving the outlook for ordinary Minnesotans and their families.”

Rep. Sandstede will represent the cities of Hibbing, Chisholm, Keewatin, Buhl and several townships. A music teacher at Virginia Elementary School, her priorities at the Legislature will include expanded education opportunities, job creation on the Iron Range, and protecting health care access and affordability.

“As a lifelong Ranger, I know how important it is for us to never stop fighting for our economic vitality and our values in the region,” Rep. Sandstede said. “I care deeply about these communities and I’m committed to working with legislators from across the state to tackle these problems.”

Prior to session, Rep. Sandstede received the following committee assignments: Education Finance, Government Operations and Elections, Health and Human Services Reform, and the Subcommittee on Childcare Access and Affordability.
