Legislative Update - December 22, 2016

Thursday, December 22, 2016

Dear neighbors,

The 2017 legislative session begins on January 3rd and I wanted to update you on recent developments regarding my 2017-2018 committee assignments.

I have been appointed as the DFL lead of the House Ways and Means committee, and will also serve on the Tax committee and the Capital Investment committee (commonly known as the “bonding committee”).

These committee assignments follow the recommendation of Minority Leader Melissa Hortman and the official appointment by House Speaker Kurt Daudt. The work conducted on these committees is instrumental to the effectiveness and efficiency of our state government, including setting our overall state budget and tax policy, and funding vital statewide jobs projects that improve public infrastructure and higher education, among other assets shared by every Minnesotan.

During my time in the legislature, I have served as the Chair of the Ways and Means committee, Chair of the Finance committee, the Education committee, and the Education Division of Appropriations. Regardless of which political party is in charge of setting the agenda at the Capitol, it’s always important for our state government to work well for the Minnesota families who depend on its many functions. Our state fiscal health is strong and I am positive that when we prioritize the basic needs of Minnesota families and work together across party lines, there is much we can accomplish this year.

Minnesota businesses and workers have done so much to position our state for success, and we can’t let them down. My committee work this session will be focused on fair and balanced budgets and solutions for our district and our state.

You can always contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic by phone at 651-296-4255 or by email at rep.lyndon.carlson@house.mn .

Sincerely,

Lyndon Carlson

State Representative
