Rep. Applebaum elected Deputy Minority Leader

Sophomore DFLer from Minnetonka earns spot on leadership team

St. Paul, Minn. – This past Saturday, Rep. Jon Applebaum (DFL – Minnetonka) was elected Deputy Minority Leader by the DFL House Caucus for the 2017-2018 legislative session. As Deputy Minority Leader, Rep. Applebaum will assist Minority Leader Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL – Brooklyn Park) and the rest of the leadership team in advocating for DFL House Caucus priorities on the House Floor, in the media and across Minnesota.

“I am honored to have earned my colleagues’ respect by being elected to this role and I look forward to making an even greater contribution to our efforts to protect the interests of Minnesotans and their families, no matter where live, the color of their skin, who they love, how they pray, or what they do for a living,” Rep. Applebaum said. “We have much more work to do to ensure Minnesota families have access to good-paying jobs, outstanding schools and affordable, top-quality healthcare, childcare and higher education options, while allowing Minnesotans to retire securely and with dignity. It’s a privilege to take part in this critical responsibility.”

The leadership election occurred during the House DFL Caucus’s post-election retreat on Saturday. Rep. Applebaum will be joined by Rep. Paul Marquart (DFL – Dilworth) and Rep. Rena Moran (DFL – St. Paul) as deputy leaders.

Rep. Applebaum will start his second term in the Minnesota House when the legislative session convenes on January 3, 2017. Outside the legislature, he is a practicing lawyer, and lives in Minnetonka with his wife Kate.
