SAINT PAUL, MN – Today, Rep. David Bly (DFL-Northfield) and five House Members sent a letter to Governor Dayton and Attorney General Swanson urging them to use their power and antitrust laws to stop consolidation in the agricultural industry.
“With only a handful of companies producing seed, fertilizer and equipment, farmers have seen increased prices for inputs, decreased choice, and the depopulation of rural America as more family farms are consolidated,” remarked Rep. Bly “This trend will only worsen if Bayer’s acquisition of Monsanto and the Dupont and Dow Chemical mergers are allowed to go forward. Minnesota farmers are struggling with low commodity prices and high costs for farm inputs. It’s vital that we use state and federal antitrust laws to ensure farmers’ interests are put ahead of those of Big Agriculture.”

Rep. David Bly (DFL-Northfield) is the DFL-Lead on the Agriculture Policy Committee.
