Statement from House DFL Leader Thissen on MNSure

Thursday, September 1, 2016

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – This afternoon, Minnesota health insurers released proposed 2017 rates for Minnesotans on the individual market that show significant premium increases. House DFL Leader Paul Thissen released the following statement:

“Rate increases for Minnesotans buying coverage in the individual market continue to be too high. The problem is that health care still costs too much and we're forcing too few people to bear the high costs of caring for the very sickest Minnesotans. Anyone who claims that these rate increases are the fault of MNSure is only demonstrating they have no ideas about how to fix the problem. Indeed, many people buying through MNSure will see much lower, if any, premium increases because they will be able to receive tax credits.

House Democrats introduced common sense proposals last spring to reduce prescription drug prices and health care costs for Minnesotans. We'll continue to do so because we believe that Minnesotans deserve access to affordable health care for themselves and their families."
