Happy Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Dear Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving! Tomorrow is a day for us to spend time with our loved ones and reflect on all the blessings in our life.

This holiday has roots as far back as George Washington’s presidency. One of my favorite presidents, Abraham Lincoln, proclaimed in 1864 that the last Thursday of November be set aside for a day of “Thanksgiving and Praise.” The proclamation starts with a prayer that begins with these words: "It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year, defending us with His guardian care..." In light of recent world events and the threats to our country, these words are especially meaningful and remind us to Whom we owe our thanks and gratitude. You can read the full proclamation here. It’s amazing that these words from over 150 years ago still ring true today.

There’s so much to be thankful for in our country and state, and I hope you have big plans for a relaxing day off with those you care for most. From my family to yours, have a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Enjoy the weekend and be safe in your travels,

Peggy
