Legislative Update (Nov. 20, 2015)

Friday, November 20, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you’re staying warm out there today! We’ve been getting spoiled with great fall weather; we almost forgot winter was right around the corner. As we approach the new year, things have been really picking up in St. Paul to prep for the 2016 session. I wanted to pass along a quick update from the Capitol, as well as a few things from around town.

School Visits

As a member of three education-related committees, I have the privilege of interacting with students, teachers, and administrators on a regular basis. One of my favorite parts of being a representative is visiting schools in our area and around the state. Earlier this week, I visited a third grade class at Glendale Elementary. I got to read to the students, and, as you can see, they were quite attentive. If you’re a teacher or parent and would like me to visit a class in our area, please contact my office.

I’ve also been on a couple tours around the state with members of the various committees. Last week, I joined the House Education Finance Committee to tour the Minnesota State Academies for the Deaf and Blind in Faribault. We learned about their facilities and how they serve students with hearing and visual impairments. It was a great experience to interact with the students and get their perspective on this extraordinary school.

Laker Volleyball

On behalf of our community, I’d like to congratulate the Prior Lake volleyball team on an incredible, historic season. Our team fell just short in the State Championship match but showed true determination to battle back from being down two sets to nothing. There’s certainly reason to be proud of such an unbelievable year. Again, congratulations, Laker volleyball, on an unforgettable season!

If you have any questions, concerns, or an idea for a bill, please contact my office whenever you get a chance. You can reach me at (651) 296-4212 or rep.drew.christensen@house.mn.

Have a great weekend and go Vikes; beat the Packers!
