Legislative Update (Oct. 30, 2015)

Friday, October 30, 2015

Friends and neighbors,

The weather is cooperating with us this weekend as we celebrate Halloween and one of the final weekends of high school football. Congratulations to our Orioles for advancing to the state football semi-finals last night! Good luck to the Crimson as they play in their state tournament quarter-final game this tonight! Go Crimson!

Completing Highway 610

This week I was involved in many meetings discussing the completion of Highway 610 with all of the connection points to Highway 94. When Highway 610 is completed in early 2017, Highway 610 will have one entrance and one exit for Highway 94. This past session I chief authored a bill (HF2300 and HF2301) to complete the buildout for the access connection points between the two roads. I am committed to finishing this project that will have a significant economic impact on for our community while allowing us to move around our area with greater ease.

Economic Club – Rev. David Beckmann, Bread for the World

World Food Prize laureate Rev. David Beckmann in one of the foremost advocates in the world on food policy and strategies to end hunger. Rev. Beckmann spoke this week to the Economic Club about how commerce and a robust trade policy can have a positive impact on our farmers and the impact on Minnesota’s economic growth.

We are blessed with many companies in our district and this state that while providing many jobs help assure we have global food security. As legislation in our state’s capitol is considered, this discussion highlighted how our laws can have a global reach and impact.

Osseo City Council

Thank you to the Osseo City Council for having me at this week’s council meeting to discuss the 2015 legislative session. I was proud to report on the education funding and reforms, the transportation legislation, and the elder care initiatives that were passed this session and are having such a positive impact on our community.

If you would like to discuss these or any other issues, please feel free to contact me via email at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn, or via phone at (651) 296-5502.

Enjoy the Halloween celebrations and one of our final fall weekends!

Warm regards,

Dennis
