Princeton, MN—Rep. Sondra Erickson, R-Princeton, issued the following statement regarding the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announcement that there will be ice fishing on Mille Lacs Lake this winter with a 5,000 pound limit. The total harvest last winter was 3,100 pounds. Final details of the fishing season, which will begin on December 1, are expected following an October 21 meeting of the Mille Lacs Fisheries Advisory Committee.
“Today’s news is a welcome relief for businesses and families around Mille Lacs Lake,” said Erickson. “Ice fishing continues to be a major economic driver for our communities during the winter months and I am happy to see that the DNR will not only allow fishing this winter, but that they are increasing the weight limit. The lake will once again be open for business as Mille Lacs continues to be the premier fishing destination in the state.”
