News from Rep. Peggy Bennett 10-15-2015

Thursday, October 15, 2015

Dear Friends,

Last week the Minnesota Management and Budget Office announced that tax revenues have come in $136 million more than they were predicting. That's good news for our economy, and another sign that our budget surplus should continue to grow when the finalized numbers are released next month. The report cited low gas prices which puts more money in people's pockets, allowing them to spend that money in their local communities. It's great to see our economy continuing to grow, and it's my hope we can send some of that surplus tax money back to Minnesota families who need it, and invest in our roads and bridges.

Stay tuned next month for the finalized budget numbers!

Combine Ride
I had the coolest experience today riding a combine and getting to see a fall harvest in action! Thank you to local farmer Richard Stadheim for letting me ride along in his combine to get an up-close look at the world of farming. That piece of machinery is amazing and I was very impressed with the technology involved that calculates yield, corn moisture, and more. Farmers have a complex job and have to be able to juggle so many things from the operation of machinery, knowledge of weather and nature factors, the commodities market, and more. We are blessed to have a strong farming community here in Minnesota.

In the Community
I had a busy but wonderful Saturday last week getting to stop by First Lutheran Church in Glenville for their fall festival, the Albert Lea Fire Department Open House, attending a wine tasting at Albert Lea's award-winning winery, Three Oak Wines, and for a delicious steak dinner at the American Legion in Alden. That fun-filled day gave me an opportunity to talk with folks in many parts of our district about what's on their mind. It was encouraging to see so many people out enjoying the great weather and coming together at community events like the Fire Department's open house.

Hope to see you around town soon; if you know of a community event coming up, please let me know so I can put it on my calendar! Email me any time at rep.peggy.bennett@house.mn or call my office at 651-296-8216.

Have a wonderful weekend!
