News from Representative Wills 10-15-2015

Thursday, October 15, 2015

Dear Friends,

Fall weather seems to have finally settled in, and I hope you've got fun plans for the upcoming MEA weekend and can make it out to support our fall sports teams who are nearing the end of their seasons.

The biggest news at the legislature this week was the Minnesota Appeals Court overturning Governor Dayton's efforts to implement a rule requiring expensive sprinkler installations in certain homes. This is a proposal that failed to gain traction under full DFL control in 2013 and 2014 and has seen strong bipartisan opposition because it significantly raises the cost of building a home. Instead of coming to the legislature, the Governor tried to have the Department of Labor and Industry implement it as a rule. The Court of appeals overturned these efforts, dropping the sprinkler requirements.

IN THE COMMUNITY:

Rosemount Fire Department Open House
I had a great time last weekend visiting the Rosemount Fire Department Open House last Sunday, October 11th. A great crowd came out to learn more about fire safety and see some cool vehicle and equipment demonstrations.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Fundraiser
I also had a chance to stop by the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon fundraiser in Rosemount on Monday, October 12th. Thanks to everyone who came out to support Beyond the Yellow Ribbon and all they do for our military and their families!

Apple Valley Chamber Luncheon
Yesterday I was able to attend the Apple Valley Chamber Luncheon, where we heard an update from Superintendent Jane Berenz about the upcoming bond referendum. The election will be on November 3rd, and you can learn more about the referendum proposal here in the Sun ThisWeek.

Congratulations
Valley Middle School Teacher Dan Dudley was named the KS95 Teacher of the Week, and had a nice feature written about him in the latest Apple Valley Sun ThisWeek. Thanks for all you do for our students and congratulations on the award Mr. Dudley! Click here to read more about his award and work at Valley Middle School in Apple Valley.
