Rep. Metsa Statement on House Bonding Bill Failure

Thursday, May 19, 2016

St. Paul, Minn. – With the clock ticking on the legislative session, the Minnesota House today failed to pass a capital investment bonding bill. The bill was crafted in such a way that projects in GOP member districts were prioritized over those of DFL members, which made it difficult to achieve the constitutionally required three-fifths vote to pass. Rep. Jason Metsa (DFL – Virginia) released the following statement afterward:

“Today’s bill was a laughable, meaningless exercise in partisan politics from the House Republicans. By releasing their bonding bill with just a few days left, it shows they knew it was too.

“To get DFL votes so this can be signed into law, bonding bills have to be balanced across the state. Today’s bill didn’t come anywhere close, and not a single project in our region was included. Let’s stop trading political chips for partisanship; it’s time to seriously work together to take care of these needs. I look forward to the House GOP coming to the table.”
