Dear Neighbors,
We are in the final stretch of the 2016 session. According to the Minnesota Constitution, we must complete our work by this Sunday at midnight. I wanted to take a moment to give you a brief transportation update.
The House and Senate Transportation Conference Committee met 5 times this year to compare differences within each body’s bill. The Senate made an offer on May 6, and the House counter-offered on May 11. No deals were made. Yesterday, the Governor proposed 2 different offers to the Legislature that keeps revenue ongoing for roads, bridges and transit. You can read about the proposals here. Ultimately, all legislative bodies have agreed on $600 million in transportation funding each year. I look forward to seeing a reasonable compromised proposal on which I could be on board.
