SAINT PAUL, MN—Tomorrow, the Minnesota House Committee on Government Operations and Elections will hear the Minnesota DISCLOSE (Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections) Act.
Authored by Rep. Laurie Halverson (DFL-Eagan), the DISCLOSE Act is a constitutional amendment that would reform the state’s campaign finance system by shining a light on the dark money spent in elections, letting voters know who was spending money to influence their votes.
What: Hearing on Minnesota DISCLOSE Act
Where: State Office Building – Basement Hearing Room (100 Dr. Rev. MLK. Jr. Blvd.)
When: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Republicans have successfully blocked the DISCLOSE Act over the last two years. It would eliminate a campaign finance loophole that currently exempts certain political groups from reporting spending on “issue based” communications, even if they advocate for or against a candidate with close proximity to an election.
