RELEASE: Relief for Small Dry Cleaning Businesses Passes the House with Overwhelming Support

Friday, May 13, 2016

SAINT PAUL, MN - Today, the House passed HF 3685, a bill that would provide financial relief to small dry cleaning businesses throughout Minnesota. The bill ensures that these small businesses receive reimbursement from paying into the Dry Cleaner Account, which is used to pay for the cleanup of soil, groundwater or surface water containment at dry cleaning facilities. Since the Dry Cleaner Account became law in 1995, third-party developers were using the money from the account to clean up property, even though they never paid into the account.

Rep. Rick Hansen, an author of the bill, released the following statement:

“This is a good bill for our Minnesota mom and pop dry cleaners. The clarification for reimbursement from third-party corporations to the small dry cleaning operations was much needed and I’m glad the bipartisan legislation passed overwhelmingly.”

Rep. Hansen encourages community members to contact him on any legislative issue.  He can be reached by email at rep.rick.hansen@house.mn or telephone at 651-296-6828.
