RELEASE: Considine Statement on House E-12/Higher Ed. Bill Passage

Tuesday, April 26, 2016

St. Paul, Minn. – Last night, the Minnesota House passed a combined E-12 and Higher Education Omnibus Bill on a vote of 84-46. Despite a $900 million state budget surplus, the Republican Majority provided $0 in new money to these budget areas.

Rep. Jack Considine (DFL – Mankato) released the following statement:

“This bill is a giant disappointment for Minnesota students at every level, as well as those who have graduated from college and are suffering under a mountain of debt. With our current budget situation there is a great opportunity to make meaningful investments in classrooms, freeze college tuition, provide student loan debt relief, and make progress on closing the achievement gap. The targets given by the House Majority leadership allow us to accomplish none of this. We should be investing in all Minnesota learners – from early childhood education to higher education – and their futures, not on corporate tax giveaways.”
