Legislative Update - September 16, 2015

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

Does the State Have Your Money?

Minnesota may have something that belongs to you. Every day, someone loses some form of financial property because of a change of address, death, or just plain forgetfulness.

Holders of unclaimed property, usually banks, insurance companies, corporations, etc. are required by law to attempt to contact the owner of the property when it appears that the owner has abandoned the item. If the owner fails to respond, Minnesota keeps it safe for them until the rightful owner is found.

Minnesota currently holds $711 million in unclaimed property. That means that one in twenty Minnesotans have more than $100 dollars owed to them.

Saint Paul History Day Student Recognition

Students work hard on History Day projects and the East Side Freedom Library wants to recognize that. Working with National History Day Minnesota, the East Side Freedom Library will be showcasing and holding a reception in honor of Saint Paul Students and their History Day projects.

The event will take place on Tuesday, September 22 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the East Side Freedom Library (1105 Greenbrier St.) A flyer is attached.

These students deserve praise for the hard work they’ve put in. I hope you can come join us for refreshments, to hear from them, and to see some of their amazing projects.

As always, feel free to contact me with any issues or questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Sheldon Johnson
