Statement from Rep. Ecklund on Passing Unemployment Benefit Extension

Thursday, March 17, 2016

ST. PAUL, MN – Tonight, the Minnesota House passed SF209 on a vote of 104-25. The bill provides a 26 week extension of unemployment benefits for laid-off workers due to the crisis on the Iron Range. Also included in the disaster relief bill was a provision cutting unemployment insurance premiums for businesses. State Rep. Rob Ecklund (DFL – International Falls) released the following statement in response:

“It is unfortunate that political agendas were tied to any form of disaster relief. I am glad we passed unemployment extension for workers on the Iron Range tonight. Hopefully, we are closer to providing these workers some relief, but I know that extending these benefits should have happened months ago. Working with Senator Bakk to get relief to our friends on the Range remains my top priority.”
